Contemporary
Worship Services
(8:15 and 10:45)
“With trumpets and sound of cornet
make a joyful noise
before the Lord, the King.”
Psalm 98:6
Music. Movement. Images. Worship God with a
more contemporary worship style. Same God. Same glory. Different approach.
These services are for those who like a more
contemporary style. The church's Praise Band opens worship with the
best of contemporary praise music, with the words projected on a large
screen so you can join in the singing. But we don’t forget our
rich traditions, which are blended into the contemporary elements
of worship.
Prayer, or conversation with God, is an important
part of our worship. We pray to glorify and honor God, to give thanks,
to confess and to intercede for others. Intercede? Let’s not
use “church” words here. Intercession is to pray for concerns
of our church members. There is a black binder called our Book of
Common Prayer in the foyer outside the sanctuary, in which you may
write down any prayer concerns. We will pray for these concerns during
worship, and church members will continue to lift these concerns to
God during the week. The prayer rails at the altar are open for kneeling
in prayer at any time.
Jesus welcomed the little children and so do
we. During each contemporary worship service, there is a children’s
time for young ones to go up to the altar to sit with the pastor and
listen to a mini-sermon. Afterwards, children ages 3 through kindergarten
may go to a Junior Worship service.
And no one falls asleep during our sermons.
Well, no one that we have noticed anyway. Scripture-based sermons
are often part of a series. Check out the scripture
and sermon topics for the previous few weeks. We encourage everyone
to bring their own bible and take notes during the sermon.
Both the infant and toddler nurseries are available
during these services.
The 10:45 service is interpreted in ASL for
the deaf.
