One of the most important parts of the church’s mission is to make disciples, and at HUMC we offer a number of different ways for newcomers to get acquainted and get involved with the church. Check out these activities just for newcomers, or browse our small group and ministry sections to find a way to get connected. Also check out our Calendar to keep track of upcoming events for those new to our church.

Welcome Dinners
Welcome dinners are informal gatherings for newcomers where they can meet the pastors and staff of the church. Bring along your whole family, any questions you have concerning the church, and a big appetite. Check the Calendar to find out when the next dinner is…or just ask Karma.  Let Karma know if you can come!

Newcomer Orientation
Newcomer orientation is an event that is mainly for adults who have been to a welcome dinner and wish to learn more about all the different things that go on in the church. These sessions are generally held three or four times a year. They usually last about three hours and are held on Saturday mornings or Sundays during Sunday School (two sessions). The purpose of orientation is to give newcomers a more detailed look at HUMC’s growth groups (Sunday School classes, Bible studies, and other small groups) and various ways to get involved with the church. Babysitting will be provided. Contact the church office if you need a babysitter.

Membership Classes
Huntertown United Methodist Church also offers a membership class to those who have been through newcomer orientation and are interested in becoming a member of the church. At the class, which is usually held twice a year, prospective members learn about the pillars of HUMC church membership (prayers, presence, gifts, and service) as well as how they can be a specialized servant in God’s church through the use of a spiritual gift inventory. This self-assessment can help determine where a person's unique talents and God-given abilities would be most effective in serving the church and God’s Kingdom.
