HUMC Through the Years
a brief history

  • 1836 - Steven R. Ball of Fort Wayne organized the Huntertown class at the home of James Thompson...6 members.

  • 1836-37 - Membership outgrew home, meetings held at Caswell School.

  • 1846 - Increase in membership required building a 30' x 40' wood frame church across the street from the present church.

  • 1849 - Allen Circuit organized.

  • 1874-75 - Huntertown replaces Wesley as head of Circuit.

  • 1877 - Pastor's residence established at Huntertown.

  • 1887-88 - First parsonage purchased at corner of Webster and Hunter Streets.

  • 1897-1900 - First sanctuary built and dedicated on June 24, 1900.

  • 1904 - Parsonage built.

  • 1938 - Extensive remodeling was done.

  • 1956 - First educational addition was completed.

  • 1961 - Former sanctuary was changed to place the altar at east end of church with aisle running length of room.

  • 1965 - New parsonage was completed.

  • 1980 - West classrooms and offices addition was finished.

  • 1986 - Celebrated the 150th year of the establishment of this church.

  • 1995 - Dedication of new sanctuary.

  • 2003 - Family Life Center on corner of Highway 3 and Cedar Canyons conceived and approved.
